This herb-infused body oil deeply hydrates and nourishes the skin. It’s versatile, easy to make, and only requires two simple ingredients— dried herbs and oil! This infusion can be used as a face and body oil, a massage oil, hair oil, or even as a base to make more homemade skin care products.
Why Make Herb-Infused Body Oil
Unfortunately, most skin care products sold today contain harsh chemicals that not only dry out the skin and damage the skin’s natural protective barrier, but also disrupt the endocrine system— negatively impacting our hormonal balance.
And though I love the emergence of non-toxic beauty brands— it’s hard to find clean skin care products that don’t contain essential oils. Because the truth is, essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that can often act as irritants to the skin, leading to more harm than good.
So why spend tons of money on skin care products that don’t actually support your skin?
By making your own herb-infused body oil, you’ll reap the potent healing benefits of each herb, while connecting more deeply to the plants and their unique properties. It’s a simple, affordable, and sustainable way to ensure that you always have luxurious herbal oil on hand!
Which Herbs to Choose
This recipe is versatile, and you can use any skin-loving herbs of your choosing. Here are some of my favorite herbs to use that are full of nourishing, anti-inflammatory, soothing properties:
- Calendula
- Rose
- Lavender
- Chamomile
- Holy Basil
- Echinacea
- Nettle
- Butterfly Pea Flower
Which Oils to Use
Choosing your oil depends on the intended use. For example, if I know I’m going to be using the oil on my face, I’ll always opt for jojoba oil, since it closely resembles the natural oils produced by the skin, and won’t clog pores. Jojoba oil is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that hydrate, protect, and cleanse the skin.
If I’m going to be using the herb-infused oil as a massage or hair oil, I might use olive oil, or avocado oil, which are both moisturizing and rich in vitamins, but not as light-weight and absorbent as jojoba.

Herb-Infused Body Oil Ingredients
- Dried herbs of choice- For this recipe, I used calendula, rose, and lavender, but you can use any skin-loving herbs of your choice. Always opt for organic or wild-harvested herbs, to avoid any pesticides.
- Oil of choice- I used organic jojoba oil, but you can use any shelf-stable oil you prefer.
How to Make Herb-Infused Body Oil
1. Fill a mason jar about halfway with dried herbs.

2. Pour oil on top of the herbs, making sure to cover the herbs by at least 1 inch or more.
3. Use a spoon to mix thoroughly and ensure herbs are fully coated and submerged in oil.

4. Cap the jar tightly and give it a shake.
5. Store the jar out of direct sunlight, and infuse at room temperature for 4-6 weeks. Every few days, give the jar a shake.
6. Strain the oil using a fine mesh sieve or a piece of cheesecloth. Make sure to squeeze out as much of the oil as possible.

7. Transfer to a lidded mason jar or glass container, and store in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
